No 3 Roebuck

Circa 1910

Captain is a horse the Rocking Horse Studio is very proud to give a home to. This uncommonly proud, masculine rocking horse is a No 3 Roebuck dating to the early 1900s, a very solid handmade horse very similar in style and construction to rocking horses made by the F.H. Ayres company. He has beautifully carved face, well-shaped throat and finely-carved legs. After all this time the only repair he needs is new ears, this horse was amazingly well-made and is in remarkable condition. They stopped making them like this a very long time ago.

At the moment Captain is hiding under a coat of ugly enamel, hopefully this can be removed to reveal her original hand-painted dapple coat. If not, it will be faithfully recreated to be a replica of what would originally have been.

Captain is worthy of consideration by an Australian rocking horse enthusiast, however despite being over 100 years old he and his stand are rock solid and can be enjoyed as a toy for another hundred years and it would be lovely to see him 'live' again.

After restoration Captain would look fairly similar to Jemima (with a somewhat different sihouette):
